Morkie

Created by crossing the Maltese and the Yorkshire Terrier, the Morkie is an extremely popular small breed in the USA today.

The Morkie is a small breed weighing 4-8lbs in weight and measuring 6-8 inches in height. This breed is tiny with soft long to medium coat length. Their coat colors are available all solid colors as well as combinations. Their two small triangular shaped ears may be standing tall or folded down. Their small tail is short and generally stands up. Their two round eyes are black or brown in color. Their nose is black or brown in color. Their face and muzzle is compact.

Morkies are a very fragile breed due to their size. Though your Morkie may not know it, it's extremely tiny and docile. Known for their big dog attitude, Morkie's can be quite bossy. This breed is known to bark for alerting noises, strangers and even to let you know if they need something. Known for being a perfect "lap dog", Morkie's do very well in apartments or homes but generally do not need much excersise to keep them content. It's very important to socialzie your puppy at a young age as well as only using positive reinforcement training methods. Puppy training classes are highly encouraged.

The Morkie sheds very little. Daily brushing is required to avoid matting. Professional grooming is highly recommended.

Please note that this breed is not meant for everyone. Morkie's are extremely fragile due to their small size. Please fully educate yourself about this breed prior to adding one to your family to ensure a life long commitment physically and financially for your new dog. A proper leash and harness or properly fenced in yard is highly recommended for your new addition. All dogs originate from wolves (Canis Lupus). Each breed of dog was originally created by mixing different breeds together in an effort to bring forth certain characteristics. Dog DNA testing companies can have accurate results for a specific bloodline of a small colony of dogs. However, there are tens of thousands of different bloodlines in the world which have not yet been tested for marker baseline results by Dog DNA testing companies as of 2024. For this reason Dog DNA testing companies do not guarantee the 100% accuracy of their breed lineage results and will also show different marker results for the same pure-bred breed in different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.
